Installing python module within code
I need to install a package from PyPi straight within my script.
Maybe there's some module or distutils ( distribute , pip etc.) feature which allows me to just execute something like pypi.install('requests') and requests will be installed into my virtualenv.

Good examples of Not a Functor/Functor/Applicative/Monad?
...but not Applicative:
I don't have a good example. There is Const, but ideally I'd like a concrete non-Monoid and I can't think of any. All types are basically numeric, enumerations, products, sums, or functions when you get down to it. You can see below pigworker and I disagreeing about whether ...
What's the difference between using CGFloat and float?
I tend to use CGFloat all over the place, but I wonder if I get a senseless "performance hit" with this. CGFloat seems to be something "heavier" than float, right? At which points should I use CGFloat, and what makes really the difference?

Polymorphism in C++
...ecific code selected?
Run time means the compiler must generate code for all the types the program might handle while running, and at run-time the correct code is selected (virtual dispatch)
Compile time means the choice of type-specific code is made during compilation. A consequence of this: say...

Correct Bash and shell script variable capitalization

Is using a lot of static methods a bad thing?
I tend to declare as static all the methods in a class when that class doesn't require to keep track of internal states. For example, if I need to transform A into B and don't rely on some internal state C that may vary, I create a static transform. If there is an internal state C that I want to be ...

Best explanation for languages without null
... that every reference type gets this extra state in its space that is typically undesired. A string variable could be any sequence of characters, or it could be this crazy extra null value that doesn't map into my problem domain. A Triangle object has three Points, which themselves have X and Y va...
