It's strange to see so many people using shell scripting for this. I was looking for a way to use native makefile syntax, because I'm writing this outside of any target. You can use the wildcard function to check if file exists:

The answers so far explicitely put the namespace value in the script. For a more generic solution, I would rather extract the namespace from the xml:

I discovered that this behaviour only occurs after running a particular script, similar to the one in the question. I have no idea why it occurs.
