grep -v 'seg[0-9]\{1,\}\.[0-9]\{1\}' file_name > ${tmpfile}
cat ${tmpfile} > file_name
rm -f ${tmpfile}
like that, consider using mktemp to create the tmpfile but note that it's not POSIX.
