What’s the purpose of prototype? [duplicate]
...-created each time; it exists in one place in the prototype. So when you call someAnimal.set_name("Ubu"); the this context will be set to someAnimal and (the one and only) set_name function will be called.
There is one advantage to using the first syntax though: functions created in this manner...

Function overloading by return type?
Why don't more mainstream statically typed languages support function/method overloading by return type? I can't think of any that do. It seems no less useful or reasonable than supporting overload by parameter type. How come it's so much less popular?

Using global variables in a function

See other answers if you want to share a global variable across modules.

How to design a multi-user ajax web application to be concurrently safe
...r-Side:
Determine a reasonable level at which you would define what I'd call "atomic artifacts" (the page? Objects on the page? Values inside objects?). This will depend on your webservers, database & caching hardware, # of user, # of objects, etc. Not an easy decision to make.
For each atomic...
Environment variable substitution in sed

So if you want to search for 'foo' and replace it with the content of $BAR, you can enclose the sed command in double-quotes.
sed 's/foo/$BAR/g'

In the first, $BAR will not expand correctly while in the second $BAR will expand correc...
How do I use the lines of a file as arguments of a command?
...re using bash. I realize that there are other shells out there, but almost all of the *nix machines I have worked on either ran bash or some equivalent. IIRC, this syntax should work the same on ksh and zsh.
