((-2:2) >= 0) & ((-2:2) <= 0)
# [1] FALSE FALSE TRUE FALSE FALSE
The longer form evaluates left to right examining only the first element of each vector, so the above gives
((-2:2) >= 0) && ((-2:2) <= 0)
# [1] FALSE
