What is the difference between MOV and LEA?
...
In NASM syntax:
mov eax, var == lea eax, [var] ; i.e. mov r32, imm32
lea eax, [var+16] == mov eax, var+16
lea eax, [eax*4] == shl eax, 2 ; but without setting flags
In MASM syntax, use OFFSET var to get a mov-immediate instead of a load.

Encoding an image file with base64
...long the lines of:
import base64
with open("yourfile.ext", "rb") as image_file:
encoded_string = base64.b64encode(image_file.read())
You have to open the file first of course, and read its contents - you cannot simply pass the path to the encode function.

Why is pow(a, d, n) so much faster than a**d % n?
... +1 that's actually what the docstring implies >>> print pow.__doc__ pow(x, y[, z]) -> number With two arguments, equivalent to x**y. With three arguments, equivalent to (x**y) % z, but may be more efficient (e.g. for longs).
