Beginning with Rails 3.2.3, when calling render :partial (only works outside of the respond_to block).
render formats: [ :html ]
instead of
render format: 'html'

...so I thought I'd post it for anyone else who might have this issue.
I was calling Count on an instance of DbSet with a filter of null i.e.
dbSet.Count(null);
I found that passing null here was causing the error so I now call the parameter-less method if the filter is null:
if (filter == null)
