In Ubuntu, I tested with ~/c/a/file, /c/b/, with ln -s ~/c/a ~/c/b/. In ~/c/b/, rm a/ does not work, rm -rf a/ only empties the original a. unlink a works perfectly, and unlink a/ does nothing.
